Use the Sweet dreams reversible electric blanket as a throw. On maximum setting this will take about 15 mins to reach top temperature, so its not as fast as some of the others, but at only 100watts, it is indefinitely the cheapest to run.
There were a couple of reviews on their site which said it did not get hot enough.
Use it as a throw, to keep you warm, just sitting on the sofa, set the central heating to low, and enjoy many toasty winter evenings, without the big bills.
As a bed over-blanket, it will raise the bed temperature, so forget that ice-cold first contact, run it on low for an hour, setting it to shut it off automatically for a good night’s rest.

- I liked the colour of this and how snuggly it feels. Heats up nice in a short time. Still not cold enough to put on all night yet. Works great with just a sheet under it. I look forward to bed times knowing I’ll be snuggling up warm. Fits the bed just great
- I was finding my winter duvet increasingly difficult to handle, especially replacing the cover (I am 79). This fleece blanket is so much easier to handle and is warm on its own. So far to mid December 2021 I have not needed to have it on at more than setting 4 and feel sure that it will be too warm in summer. It just covers the width of a double bed so would be a bit narrow for two people. Because it is lighter than my duvet my feet are much more comfortable and less prone to cramp in the night.
